The back-lit keyboard is perfect. I bought this after going through the Dell 15R, and Lenovo GS500. Processing speed is ok. However, get an external mouse handy at all times. Trackpad, while large, is not as smooth as it looks. Vertical/horizontal scroll is very spotty. Only works about 15% of the time. I've gone through blogs that suggest update the driver, which I did. It still has the issue.

I recieved this laptop, and it is very well designed and I was very excited to start using it, but sadly I was not able to do so. After putting the battery in and plugging the lap top in, I proceeded to turn the laptop on and the screen was non responsive. After chatting with tech support I now have to send my lap top in for repairs, so please buy with caution, maybe mine was a freak accident but I am still unhappy

So first I will say I am coming from a MacBook air 11' mid 2011 with 2GB ram and 64GB harddrive. This one I got has 4GB of ram and 128GB harddrive. I use this laptop mainly for browsing the internet and some programming. Now that you have a little background Ill give a quick review.
From the get go this laptop is MUCH faster then my previous Macbook air. When you open the lid you are ready to go that second. On the old one I would have to wait a little for it to load and if I left chrome up and clicked on it right away then I would get the loading wheel. I havent seen this do it once. That could be because of the harddrive being so much faster.
When I opened the box the laptop was already charged to 91% so im trying to kill it. Well I was on it ALL NIGHT last night and now its the morning and its only at 60%. That battery life is amazing and let me honest thats what we ask for in a laptop.
If you are up in the air about this laptop(no pun intended). I would say give it a go. You could even buy it from the Apple store and if you dont like it just return it.
If you are replacing an older Macbook air and have one thats because the mid 2012 then I would say get it but if you have the mid 2012 I dont know if I would suggest spending the money unless you really want battery. I hope this helps anyone trying to purchase this laptop.

I purchased this laptop to replace a Samsung that was always having difficulties. I researched higher performance laptops for a few weeks before making a decision. I read the reviews of similar laptops on this site as well as others. I struggled with the decision to move to a Windows 8 system. I read so many reviews of similar laptops that began with the phrase "nice laptop but Windows 8 is dragging my ratings down" or "it would be ok if it did not have Windows 8". I also struggled with the type of screen debate, touch or non-touch type screens. In the end, after speaking with my brother who owns both a touchscreen and non-touchscreen Windows 8 computer, I went with this touchscreen model
I received the laptop, as promised, on New Years Eve. Keep in mind that I am far from a "techie" when it comes to computers. After unpacking the well protected laptop, I plugged it in and powered it up. After doing the setup dance, with no issues, I went to work installing my older MS Office 2007 onto the hard drive. This also went well, not one issue during the install. I have not installed my flight simulation software yet but I do not expect any problems.

I have used the laptop for some everyday MS Office chores and various Internet adventures. So far, not a single issue. The WiFi works better than either of my last two laptops. It even works well with only a one bar signal. I downloaded several updates to my software packages and utilities. They all installed with no issues.
Now to the Windows 8 debate. I have migrated through the Microsoft Windows jungle since the earliest Windows. The last three laptops were 2 Vista's and a Windows 7

For roughly 550.00 this can hardly be beat for a small laptop that has windows 8 and a touchscreen. At first I was a little aggravated with the touch pad but, I installed the drivers from Samsung's website that are supposed to be for a series 5 laptop. This laptop along with several others have the same Elan touch pad in them. Once you install this driver it is a night and day difference in the touchpad.

So go to the comment and get to the link then follow what is below.
You then need to click on the Manuals and Downloads link, then click Driver. After that scroll down and click on the ZIP link for the Touch Pad driver 11.7.2.1

If you have the sorry Asus Smart Gesture installed, uninstall that first and reboot, then install this software. I have had various Macbooks for the better part of the last 7 years and this is my first PC laptop in a while. I was almost ready to return this laptop until I found these drivers. I would say the touch pad is 95% of a Macbook touch pad now and whether you like Apple or not, you have to admit they know what they are doing when it comes to track pads. Aside from all of that I'm extremely happy with the operation of this laptop now.
I am coming from a laptop that had an SSD drive in it so it does seem a little slow in some areas but, others it is working just fine. I have an extra SSD drive that I plan on putting in this machine as well as removing the half height mini PCI atheros wireless/bluetooth combo. I'm going for a full 5 stars on this laptop, despite the limitations the product has in comparison to other laptops available on the market today. There are several apps that come pre-loaded on the laptop including Netflix, Bing search, paint, a pinball game, but it does not come with the Office Suite loaded, this will need to be a separate purchase. There are a couple of really good free word processors out there like LibreOffice that run very smoothly and have excellent features, not to mention Google Docs.
The main and only real issue I have with the laptop is the inability, as another reviewer has mentioned, to upgrade the memory. It comes with 2GB and cannot be swapped out by the end user. I think being able to do so could make up for some speed issues elsewhere. 2GB isn't exactly the high end of the spectrum, but it can push what this laptop was designed for, and I'm okay to settle with that.

While many users of Windows 8 had some issues with the layout and the functionality / familiarity of the operating system, I feel that the environment works well with this laptop. The touch screen works admirably and I have not had any issues with switching back and forth between using on screen commands and regular keyboard or mouse commands. The best way to describe the operating system is somewhere between a more traditional Windows environment and a smartphone. There is a desktop, with folders, time, and all the rest we are used to seeing, and there are also app-launcher screens that can be accessed and are laid out very similar to how the apps are arranged on a phone.

I've heard a lot of back and forth reviews on this. I love this phone. I live in the U.S. and i have consumer cellular as my phone provider. I bought this phone, stuck my sim card in it, and had no trouble at all setting it up. All i had to do was go through initial set up steps like language settings (it was in English (ireland) and i changed it to english (united states)). I could not disagree more with the previous reviewer. It sounds more to me like he sucks at the skill that typing on a phone requires, probably not patient enough or has pretty big fingers. It has been a joy for me to use for the last month of having it. I am coming from a Black berry and this has been vastly superior. The touch screen is not only very responsive but you have the built in option of just sliding your fingers from one letter to the other to type which makes if much more effortless than the typical input method and i didn't have to download an app to do taht.

Its feature rich and beautiful to hold and look at. Matter of fact just about every one who has seen me with it and played around with it wants one. If you are looking for a dual sim, go no further but even if you are just looking for a single sim its def worth the buy. There is one serious down side but I would still have bought it when I think of all the others pluses - the HSPDA is only a mere 7mbps. Way way too small for a phone of this price and design. The other downers like battery capacity is pretty typical for these smartphones so I won't discredit this model for it but it's really drains too fast no matter how I try to save power. Overall a def 4 stars for me.

For this price, it's a great value. It does almost all that my girlfriend's iPhone 4s does, and more. It is not as fast and responsive as the iPhone, the camera and the sound are also not as good, but it does the job. The screen size is identical to the iPhone, and the screen resolution seems to be the same. I installed a lot of apps on it, and so far have not run out of memory (unlike with my previous phone that had Android 2.3 on it). It came with Android 4.0, and recently was updated to 4.1. So far I have not found any use of the dual SIM card capability, but it could come handy on my next European trip if I buy a local SIM card there. That's the way to save on phone bills while overseas. Highly recommended.
